Turquoise Lamp
Just a few months ago I created my first lamp. Can I just say that learning to add hardware and wire lamps was not on my bingo card for my life?
But I love the idea of making things that are centered around the theme of light. I’ve made plenty of candle holders and luminarias, so the next step was lamps. This one is not my first, but my second, and I’m so happy with it.
I used the Laguna Power Turquoise as a glaze, but the real magic was in the slabs of textured clay that I built into the middle areas of the disc after creating the disc and cutting out a frame for the textured pieces.
Wiping back the glaze from that texture allows the beautiful color of the Armadillo Cinco Rojo clay to show through—and it looks spectacular next to the deep turquoise color.
I did learn some lessons about how to construct the top of the base to accept the hardware—namely, make sure it’s the right size, and that your hand can get up into the lamp far enough to tighten down the nuts and washers!
I just used a basic hardware kit from Amazon and a basic lamp shade kit as well.
It’s a medium tall lamp at 24” and relatively slender at 10-12” wide. The base itself is only 10”.
The light of the world is Jesus.
