Tree of Life Place Setting

Mystical plate setting in an earthy green and black tree of life design.

I love it when the idea actually works.

A few weeks ago I was at a frustrating point: I had created several sets of plates using an idea that I just knew would work out—except that it didn’t. More on that maybe at a later time, but the point is, I decided to walk away from that project for a bit and try something else while perhaps the first idea had time to mature.

Immediately an new inspiration struck me, this gorgeous set is the result.

I have a set of GR Pottery forms from a few years ago—but they are the ones with the sharp corner which has a different character from the new RD2 forms that have the graduated rim. Since I wanted a more organic feel for these plates, I ordered a set of the RD2 forms and got to work.

These are created using Armadillo Clay’s Cinco Rojo, a beautiful reddish clay which is exposed for your appreciation on the reverse.

The glaze treatment is Coyote Black (on the large plates and bowls) or Amaco Obsidian (on the small plates), then Amaco Deep Olive Speckle over a waxed design.

The medallion is a tree of life design glazed with Amaco Ancient Copper which is such an elegant touch.

It felt so good to have them come out so nice after several rounds of disappointement.
