Making an art journal for the sake of journaling has never really interested me. I know that many people benefit from the practice, whether it’s for mental health or just capturing the essence of a place while traveling. It’s just not really something that I feel motivated to do.
During the workshop I recently attended, Karen Margulis recommended we keep an art journal of the weekend. Part of me rolled my eyes… How was I going to do any more art than I was already going to be doing?
Then a brilliant plan occurred to me. Why not ‘journal’ while she spoke? I could illustrate my notes or just draw something in the room.
It was actually fun! I never thought I could draw, so every improvement I notice in my drawing really encourages me.
