A Daisy a Day

daisy pastel painting
I love daisies and they have a special and tender meaning to me. 16×20, pastel, self prepared surface on matboard. Not For Sale at this time.

A Fairy Story

Once upon a time there was a girl and a boy who were given to each other as a gift by God. They fell in love, of course, and sang silly love songs to one another, gave each other flowers and trinkets and wrote sappy letters.

They married, and God blessed them with four wonderful children. They were poor, but they had each other. One day, the boy went to work but never came home again.

Daisies are my favorite

I’ve always loved daisies. I don’t know why–perhaps it’s their combination of bright beauty with hardiness. Perhaps they appeal to me because they are considered common compared to flowers like roses. Maybe it’s the fact that they live out loud, revealing their heart right away and letting it shine for all to see. I’ve always felt a kinship, a connection to them, and they never fail to bring a smile to my face.

Daisies were one of the first things I attempted to paint. The result was so disappointing to me that it was a very long time before I tried again. I’m happy to share this new daisy painting with you. It is the third I’ve ever painted, and there is yet a fourth on my easel at this moment.

I’ll give you a daisy a day
I’ll give you a daisy a day
I’ll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away

This song has been one of the girl’s favorites ever since she learned it during her teenage years. She and the boy often sang it together.

These days, she sings the song and paints daisies in his memory.
